It’s a lovely crisp Spring morning, and it’s Monday. I am grateful for a brand new week filled with new miracles and phenomenal opportunities. But what I’m most excited about is that I made it through the weekend and still have my sanity and sense of humour in tact. I know this because I got up at 5:30 am to hit the gym and I made it through.
Let’s rewind a little and revisit the past weekend in the life and times of Laurene. It was a challenge to say the least. I have been on a remarkable journey of new discoveries and rediscoveries and these have most certainly seen me through. Revisiting and implementing the old trusted technique of Gratitude has carried me through and opened my eyes yet again to the beauty and power of the everyday and the now.
I have been so blessed to get well acquainted with the lovely Debra Poneman through her ‘Yes to Success’ series and I’m so excited to have her as a friend (she may not know me, but our souls have most certainly met). I have focussed my mind on being completely thankful for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! The good, the (seemingly) bad and the (seemingly) ugly and what a blessing it has been. From writing a long specific list of things and people I am grateful for, to just saying random thank you’s during the day, to even crying my thank-you’s when I needed to, has been the nourishment for my soul. I can not tell you the difference it has made!
Here is the wonderful science behind this fabulous spiritual phenomena. When negative thoughts abound, a chemical reaction in the brain is triggered, which ‘feeds’ the psyche and like a very clever drug, it gets you addicted to its very short lived ‘high’. Soon, you are craving that feeling again and your mind shifts to seeing, saying or noticing something negative in or around you. Your brain reacts by giving you your fix of brain chemical and the ‘high’ is there, but just for a short while. We’ve all experienced this many times! Sitting with some friends and having a good old gossip about someone. In the moment, it feels pretty powerful and fun and usually comes with some laughs at their expense and a sense of bonding and a little exhilaration to boot. It could even just come from hating and reacting to your fellow drivers in rush hour traffic. A good old rant brings relief and makes us feel better, or so we think. What is actually happening is that we are feeding our addiction of negativism with brain chemicals that give us a short lived little ‘high’, but then makes us crash and feel completely disempowered, depressed and deflated.
Thankfully, that can be reversed!! With gratitude and I mean a conscious decision to be grateful for EVERYTHING, good and bad, you literally reprogram your brain to release happy chemicals like Serotonin, that don’t give you a false ‘high’, they empower you to live your reality with joy, happiness and power! Gratitude hands you back your POWER! The rush hour will still be the rush hour, you’ll still get together with friends, but the stories change…drastically. Your vibration is instantly lifted which in turn attracts high vibrations into your life and the cycle of dependence on the negative, is broken! In fact a new dependence is formed, a dependence on feeling the effects of being positive, which I’ll succumb to any day.
Yesterday, I still felt lonely and sad and I cried, but by ‘crying’ my gratitude an amazing thing happened. My sad tears turned to tears of thankfulness. My focus shifted from myself to others and I started wishing blessings on them and feeling thankful for being able to bless others. It made me feel GOOD! My vibration lifted, I felt it! I spent the rest of the day falling easily into thankfulness and I reclaimed my POWER over the stuff in my life and my True Being was able to shine through and hold my hand through the rest of my day. Consciously celebrate your life, from the taste of your coffee this morning, to the miracle of Spring having sprung and the love that surrounds you that we take for granted so very easily.
Today I am grateful for what is, what will be and my POWER to create my dream life. I am most thankful for not being a slave to negativity. I commit to breaking my addiction to the negative and the false ‘high’ it brings. ‘Everything happens for me, not to me’ is what Byron Katie says. It will be my motto for today and always!
Live the POWER that IS YOU and watch your True Being come to life!!!
